Day 1

The day felt so full that it's difficult for me to sort it all out in my mind. But I was happy.

Here are the highlights:
- I met three very different women, separately, and spent time with each of them, but felt totally free to continue on my way as I chose.
- I saw the mist over fields and under mountains in the early morning.
- I walked over 26 km, from Roncesvalles to Larrasoaña. Rather a big push for the first day, and I probably should have held back, but who would I be if I didn't push myself too hard. The last 5 km were not very fun.
- I walked down a lane with flowering bushes on either side, each breath a a bloom.
- The supermarket in town also serves wine, and we were given some for free.
- Sometimes, on the trail, I pretended I was an airplane.
- I felt like I was smiling almost all day.
- I told one of the women that I've been suffering from depression and it felt freeing and easy. She made no fuss about it, but accepted me for me.

I just hope I can make it through the first 5-10 km without a lot of pain.

My feet after day one.

All the cats at the albergue.
